Tokyo Wonder Site

Tokyo Arts and Space, Tokyo, Japan, 2009.

During this period, Sarabia developed a body of work inspired by local botany and the cultural exchanges he encountered in Japan. Building on his ongoing interest in the intersections between commerce, folklore, and nature, he used botanical studies as a key visual and conceptual guide. His research into illegal trade, black-market economies, and ideas of beauty was reframed through the lens of Japanese traditions and the surrounding environment.

The works produced—primarily drawings and handcrafted objects—reflect this dialogue between natural forms and socio-economic narratives, revealing a more subtle, exploratory approach shaped by humor, curiosity, and cross-cultural observation.
